The
French Minister of Foreign Affairs: Dominique
de Villepin PRESIDENT MKAPA
TO RECEIVE IN MTWARA The French Minister of Foreign
Affairs, Dominique de Villepin, will pay a courtesy call to The
President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E Benjamin William
Mkapa in Mtwara to take his advice as a start to his regional trip in
the Great Lakes Region. The meeting, to take place in Mtwara
and schedulded on Sunday morning , September 22, 2002 is an event of
prime importance for the two countries First,
because Mr. de Villepin will be visiting Tanzania for the first time
since his appointment as Frances Foreign Minister in May 2002. Secondly,
this visit, the first leg of de Villepins tour of three Great Lakes
countries of Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, is
the very first opportunity for Him to hold direct consultations with
the Tanzanian Highest Authorities on bilateral issues and a number of
issues concerning the Great Lakes region, in particular the Burundi
peace negotiations.(*) Tanzanias experience as part of
the regional initiative and as one of the rare East and Central
African countries to enjoy peace and security, is naturally a country
whose advise is of great value. From Mtwara, the Minister will head
for Bujumbura where he will meet President Buyoya and other burundian
authorities. Mr. de Villepins visit to
Tanzania is in line with the commitment He personally made the day
President Chirac appointed Him the 15th Minister of Foreign
Affairs of the Fifth Republic since 1958 : I will do my all my best to
visit an African country once every month. Frances relations with
Africa are of long standing. They bear the marks of History and that of the Heart.
There is for France and Me a duty of memory, fidelity, friendship and
solidarity that I intend to fullfil. France will be siding with
Africans to help them in difficult times, in crisis as well as in
solving their big problems. We are working together, side by side, in
order to live in a more secure and stable world than before. " Mr de Villepin - in just three
months- has so far visited: Libreville (Gabon) June 5, 2002, Dakar (Senegal)
June 5, 2002, June 24,2002, Tripoli (Libya), Antananarivo (
Madagascar) July 3, 2002, Luanda (Angola) July 19, 2002, Maputo
(Mozambique) July 20, 2002, Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso ) July 21, 2002,
Yamoussoukro (Ivory Coast): 21 July 2002 , Cairo (Egypt) ./. |
